Vancouver, BC—The Society of Notaries Public of British Columbia elected their Board of Directors for the 2012–2013 year at their Annual General Meeting on September 16, 2012.

John Eastwood of South Delta, President of The Society for the past two years, was elected for a second term of office. He has extensive experience as a Notary and a Realtor. Mr. Eastwood is a Past President of both the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver and the Canadian Real Estate Association. His skills, ability, and extensive community involvement will serve him well as he continues in this position.

Akash Sablok, who practices in Vancouver, and Tammy Morin Nakashima, who practices in Richmond, were also re-elected to the Executive Committee; Susan Davis of Sidney will continue to serve as the Immediate Past President of The Society. The full slate of Directors is:

“I would like to thank our departing Directors for their significant contributions to the Society, and to welcome our new Directors: Philip Kanigan, Patricia Wright and Daryl McLane”, said Wayne Braid, CEO of The Society of Notaries Public of BC.

The Society also recognized Richard Evans of Nanaimo by presenting him with an Honourary Life Membership. He was a Director of The Society for 12 years and President from 1988 to 1990. His education achievements include a BSc degree and a diploma in Urban Land Economics with the Appraisal Option, both from UBC; a BC real estate licence; and a general insurance agent’s licence. Mr. Evans is currently a Director on the Board of the British Columbia Law Institute.

“The contribution of Rick Evans to the development of the Notary profession in British Columbia is immeasurable. Since his commission in May 1975, his many clients, fellow Directors, and Real Estate, Notary, and Lawyer colleagues have greatly benefitted from his expertise as a legal professional,” said Braid.

The mandate of The Society of Notaries Public of BC is to ensure that its members provide the highest standard of Notarial services to the people of our province.

The Society of Notaries Public of B.C. represents more than 320 highly trained Notary professionals.
